October 2000
Vol. 1, Number 1

The Arcadia Valley R-II School District is very proud that we are one of five recipients of a federal 21st Community Learning Center Grant in the state of Missouri this year. This is a three-year project for the Arcadia Valley in cooperation with Central R-III and Bismarck R-V. Hopefully, you have heard about this project and even taken advantage of some the activities. This Newsletter will be published every month in an effort to keep you, the public and parents of Arcadia Valley students informed of the many activities that this grant is providing for our community. If you have questions about certain activities feel free to contact the person in charge of the activity, the building principal or David Dillard (546-9700 ext 4) the site coordinator. The best thing about the activities under this grant is that all the activities are free to the participants.
There are several components to the project, each affecting different age groups. This Newsletter will attempt to provide as many of the activities as possible. Enjoy as many of them as you can.

Our focus for the evening will be drug prevention and general health. We will have a variety of fun and educational stations for parents and children to visit together. Our evening will conclude with a lively show presented by Frilly & Miller from St. Louis, MO. For further information, please contact Pam McLaurin, Elementary Counselor (546-9700, ext 1.)

MIDDLE SCHOOL AFTER SCHOOL
The Arcadia Valley Middle School is open from 3:15 till 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Students are served a meal, assisted with homework and allowed to work on the computers in the library. This is an excellent way for students to catch up on homework. Students do not have to stay the entire time, but parents need to let the school know when the students are to leave or check them out.
